It is the mission of St. Jemuel to provide children with learning experiences using an Interdisciplinary Team approach, to review the children that have needs and become the conduit needed to ensure that whatever the developmental need, it may be it is addressed, and services are provided through partnership withcommunity agencies.
The Saint Jemuel Day Care Center is a Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) license Child Care Center who open it’s door in the Kingsbridge community in 2003. For Seventeen (17) years St. Jemuel has provided full day, child care services to over 500 families and for the last six years as a Pre-K for All provider preparing young children to enter a competitive academic environment. We have consistently met the needs of the community and have a record of positive outcomes. Currently our enrollment is 60% Latino, 30 % Caribbean and 10% bi-racial, which is representative of the community. Our program is designed to provide children and families with an environment that responds to cultural pride and self-esteem, enhances individual strengths, and develops relationships. Our interpersonal services are integrated into the education plan, which includes health, mental health, nutrition, family partnerships, and disabilities.
OUR STAFF AND CURICCULUM
The staff is dedicated and highly trained. Each head teacher has at least a bachelor’s degree, some with a master’s and Early Childhood Certification. Every teacher has an assistant and the infant toddler classroom has a head teacher with the appropriate teacher child ratio
All personnel havehad background checks, complete physicals, proper immunization, CPR & first Aid, disease control and child abuse training. The staff is required to participate in monthly professional development sessions each year covering safety, pedagogy, health, and personal goal setting. Our Educational Director will assess every preschooler within two months of admittance for a baseline and again in seven months. Our parents are required to attend parent/teacher conferences each year to discuss their child’s academic, social, and emotional growth. At the end of the year we have a Moving Up ceremony celebrating the accomplishment our children have made throughout the year.Your child’s safety is our primary concern therefore the Center has a very sophisticate fire alarm system, conducts fire drills every month and has a state-of-the-art security camera system.
Our children receive breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack with a full day attendance.
Our curriculum is age appropriate and each child discovers challenging educational experiences that encourage creative solutions. An individual approach to learning is stressed even when the child is part of a small group.
